Lady Bulldog kickers shut out by Bearcats

ADA - The Ada girls soccer team kicked off its Northwest Conference slate with a tough 2-0 loss to visiting Spencerville Monday evening at the park.
Ada fell to 2-2 and 0-1 in the NWC with the defeat. The Lady Bearcats improved to 2-0-1 and 1-0-1 in the league with the win.
Spencerville scored early in the game to take a 1-0 lead. Bearcat Shaffer dribbled through the Bulldog defense to net the first goal.
"After that, we were able to keep the ball on our offensive end but only managed to get four shots on goal," said Ada head coach Doug Poling. "The second half started out the same with us controlling much of the possession."
But Shaffer extended the Bearcat lead to 2-0 when she scored off a through ball.
"We had a chance to score late, but were unable to capitalize on a penalty kick and a shot that was taken inside their six-yard line," recalled Poling.
Spencerville out-shot Ada, 15-9. McKenzie Long made 13 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-1 home) host Liberty-Benton in a non-league match Wednesday at 5 p.m.
