Chalmer Dyer, 1925 - 2018

 Chalmer Dyer, age 92, died on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 2:45 p.m. at his residence in Alger.

            He was born on October 25, 1925 in Salyersville, Kentucky to the late Rev. Seward and Mary (Hurt) Dyer.  On October 26, 1948 Chalmer married Bessie L.  Lawrence, and she preceded him in death on May 16, 2006.

            Chalmer retired from Dallas and Mavis as a truck driver, he drove coast to coast.  He was the oldest member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger.  Chalmer was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during WWII from March of 1945 to December of 1946.  Some of Chalmers favorite things were food, sweets, coffee, going to church, eating at the Alger Freeze, hunting and fishing. 

            He is survived by his children: Bill (Connie) Dyer of Alger, Rita Dyer of Lima, Amy (John) Longbrake of Lima, Kay Lynn (Elmer Amweg) Dyer of  Alger and Shirley Murphy of Ashville, NC; twenty-four grandchildren,  fifty-five great grandchildren and two and a half great-great grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Stella) Dyer of Alger; and four sisters: Ruby Holbrook of Ada, Lucy Rowe of Alger, Ruth Dye of Dola and Rosemary (Daniel) Miller of Alger.

            He was preceded in death by three sons: Joe Dyer, Robert  “Bob” Dyer and James “Jimmy” Dyer; a daughter, Wanda Dyer; a daughter-in-law, Pam Holcomb; two grandchildren Joshua Walters and Lori Dyer; two brothers: Mort Dyer and Ray Dyer; a sister Ressie Robirds; four brothers-in-law: Rev. James Holbrook, Rev. Abe Rowe, Elmer Dye and Earnest Robirds.

            Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 17, at Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, 2040 Township Road 120, Alger, Ohio 45812 with Rev. Robert Dye officiating.  Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger with graveside military rites.

            Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, P.O. Box 41, Alger, Ohio 45812 for the benevolence of the family.
