A “cash mob” is coming to Ada in March.

The Buy Ada First Committee, an ad hoc group consisting of local business people and residents, will hold the community’s second cash mob on Tuesday, March 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. The location, which is a prominent Main Street business, will be revealed soon.

“Last year the Buy Ada First Committee hosted its first ever Cash Mob in October at Reicherts,” said Heather Cox, of the committee. “It was very successful and we want to continue promoting our local businesses and the Ada community.”

What is a cash mob?

What is a cash mob? A cash mob is like a flash mob, but instead of singing or dancing, cash mobbers join together to support their local economy by visiting and making purchases at a selected local business.

“Participation is easy, tell your friends, show up, make a purchase large or small and celebrate your local community. Join in the fun and give a local business a boost,” said Cox.

Cash mobs encourage members of the community to support a local business by creating an immediate economic stimulus. It also creates a way to unify people in a community the Buy Ada First Committee hopes to continue this project by holding more cash mobs in Ada during 2013.

How can residents participate and spread the word? Watch Ada Facebook accounts Twitter messages, e-mails and the local media. When residents see information about Ada’s March cash mob, they are encouraged to spread the word to their friends via social media.

Besides the continuation of the Cash Mob, the Buy Ada First has other events planned this year, including:

• Expansion of “Music On Main” this summer (Tentative “Music on Main” dates are the    Friday evenings of June 14, July 12 and Aug. 9.)

• A soup cook-off this fall

The committee meets monthly. The next meeting is at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Community Health Professionals, 1200 S. Main St., Ada.
