Kenneth Hopson was a graduate of Hardin Northern
Kenneth D. Hopson, 73, died on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at 10:26 a.m. at his residence in Dunkirk.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1945, in Auxier, Kentucky, to the late Earnest and Marie (Webb) Hopson. On Aug. 12, 1967, Kenneth married Phyllis Van Scoy and she preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2013.
Kenneth retired from Rockwell (Arvin Meritor) of Kenton and previously worked for MTek as a security guard. He was a 1965 graduate of Hardin Northern High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He was a member and Deacon of the High Street Freewill Baptist Church. Kenneth taught adult Sunday school and did the grounds work for the church. He was an avid gardner and enjoyed reading his Bible.
He is survived by a son, Kenny (Amber) Hopson of Dunkirk; three daughters: Mary Hopson of Dunkirk, Leasa (Scott) Lee of Delphos and Jennifer Wilch of Dola; 12 grandchildren: Cassandra (Eric) Lightner, Sheign Hopson, Kamryn Hopson, Sahbastion Hopson, Michael (Lindsey) Lee, Jason Lee, Haley (Nate) Stidham, Lexi Wilch, Maddy Wilch, Ava Hopson, Nolan Hopson and Aspen Hopson; five great grandchildren: Kendra Lightner, George Lightner, Brody Hopson, Karleigh Stidham and Koby Stidham; two brothers: Paul (Janice) Hopson of Tennessee and Melvin “Buck” (Saundra) Hopson of Harrod; and a sister, Doris Selhorst of Dunkirk.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Dean Hopson Jr; and two brothers: Larry Hopson and Ernie Hopson.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Jim Webb officiating. Burial will be in Dola Cemetery, Dola with graveside military honors conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 honor guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. "In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to High Street Freewill Baptist Church, Harrod.
