Baseball: Perry downs Ada boys in opener

CRIDERSVILLE - Host Perry tallied seven first inning runs and went on to post a 13-1 victory over Ada in the baseball season opener Saturday afternoon.
Perry took advantage of seven walks and four Bulldog errors to win despite knocking out just three hits.
Ada (0-1) plated its lone run in the top of the third inning when Phillip Coulson singled home Jaylin Burkart, who had walked.
Perry pushed across five more runs in the home half of the third frame to extend the lead to 12-1. The Commodores added a run in the fourth to finsih the run-rule shortened 13-1 win.
Trent Ennis added the other Ada hit.
Landon Blankenship pitched three innings of solid relief for Ada, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts. Ennis hurled a scoreless inning of one-hit relief.
Miller pitched a five-inning complete game, giving up two hits, to earn the win for Perry. He struck out 11 Bulldogs and walked three on 83 pitches.
Miller also doubled and drove in three runs for Perry. The Commodores stole a dozen bases.

Ada is slated to host count rival Hardin Northern Monday in their home opener at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
The Ada softball game at Perry Saturday was postponed. The Lady Bulldogs are also scheduled to host HN Monday evening.
