ONU women 4th; men 5th in OAC all-sports trophy
The Ohio Northern women ended fourth while the Polar Bear men finished fifth in their respective 2018-19 Ohio Athletic Conference All-Sports Trophy races, the league office announced Monday night.
In the women's race, the Polar Bears compiled 68.25 points for the fourth-place finish, just 0.5 points outside the top-three programs.
Otterbein claimed the institution's first OAC All-Sports Trophy with 78.25 points behind conference titles in cross country, soccer, indoor track and field, and softball. Meanwhile, Mount Union ended a close second with 76.25 points, and Baldwin Wallace took home third with 68.75 points.
This year, the ONU volleyball program claimed a share of the 2018 OAC Regular Season title and the 2018 OAC Tournament crown while the women's soccer and softball teams each recorded runner-up finishes to guide the effort.
Overall, Ohio Northern secured upper-division finishes in nine of the 11 OAC-sponsored sports during the 2018-19 academic year.
The Ohio Northern men registered 62.00 points this year for their fifth-place mark in the OAC All-Sports Trophy battle.
John Carroll claimed the top spot for the fifth consecutive year and ninth all-time with 88.50 points after capturing OAC titles in soccer, swimming and diving, lacrosse, and tennis. Mount Union recorded runner-up honors with 75.25 points; Otterbein ended third with 70.25 points; and Baldwin Wallace took fourth with 67.25 points.
The ONU men's swimming and diving program led the performances with a runner-up finish. In addition, the tennis and cross country programs ended third while the lacrosse and baseball teams each ended in a tie for third place in their respective OAC regular season standings.
This year, the Ohio Northern men recorded nine upper-division finishes in the 12 OAC-sponsored sports.
