The Farmers and Merchants Picnic board needs your help for this year’s event, held Saturday, Aug. 10.

The board seeks volunteers from the community, according to Yvonne Bonham.

“Volunteers are needed for several events. If you are unable to take on an entire event, we could use volunteers for just an hour or two,” said Bonham.

Contact Bonham at 419-204-4235, or Eva Wolke at 419-302-7402 for more information. The board meets each month at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday in the brick building on the corner of North Park and South Simon.

The board has identified the following areas where volunteers are needed:

The Parade: We need someone to take over the entire event. Their job would be to book bands from area schools, baton twirlers, dancers and any other person or group of interest. Also, assemble and organize everyone on the day of the picnic for the parade.

Prince and Princess: We need someone to take over the entire event. Their job would be: to post sign-ups for the kids; get crowns and have contestant sashes made; and on the day, sign contracts and pass out tickets; collect money from ticket sales; and coordinate all participants to line up for the parade; and crowning of the winners.

Hourly prize drawings: We need someone to take over the prize drawings on the day of the picnic. This job requires at least two people to be at the table, all day or in shifts. They'll need to draw tickets and write names on the hourly prize board. They will also need to help with the grand prizes on the main stage.

Merchant building: Making sure all the merchants and crafters are set up by 10 a.m.

Entertainment: Day of picnic, help keep all entertainment organized and running smoothly.

Set-up/tear-down: Volunteers needed.
