Batter up!
The 35-member Ada High School Marching Band and Color Guard earned an Excellent overall rating at the OMEA Sstate finals on Nov. 3 at Welcome Stadium, Dayton.
This included Superior ratings in the areas of music and Color Guard performance.
This year’s baseball-themed competition show titled “Bases Loaded,” is reminiscent of a fun afternoon at the ballpark. Featured soloists are:
• Nathan Hurtig, saxophone,
• Victoria Ross, Trumpet and
• Isaac Spar, Melophone
Ada High School Marching Band and Color Guard competed in four OMEA qualifying competitions, beginning their 2019 competition season by earning first place in class C and best music out of the combined class B and C bands at the Revere High School Invitational Sept. 28.
Ada’s percussion section also received first place honors in Class C. On Oct. 5 in Maysville and again on Oct. 19 in Piqua, the Band and Color Guard earned first place, best percussion section, and best color guard in Class C.
The group earned second place in class C at the rain soaked Tri-Valley High School Invitational Oct. 26. At this competition the group also earned best percussion section, best music, best general effects and best color guard honors in Class C.
The color guard placed 6th overall regardless of school size, beating out 11 other guards. At Tri-Valley, Ada earned 6 superior ratings, which qualified the group for the state marching band finals for an unprecedented fourth competition in a row.
The Marching Band is under the direction of Tom Atkinson. Jordyn Walkup serves as the Color Guard Director. Victoria Ross, Hunter Wells, and Nathan Hurtig are this year’s drum majors. Samantha Crawford and Madison Wright serve as color guard captains.
