Checkers anyone?
Attention middle school parents: You might consider a checker board as a Christmas present this year. That's right, checkers.
This month Ada sixth, seventh and eighth grade students are playing something more serious than March Madness and it is catching on. It’s the first-ever Ada middle school checkers tournament.
With brackets posted across the school cafeteria walls, it appears that December Delirium has captured the imagination of 106 Ada middle school students.
You know the rules:
• You are either red or black
• Single pieces are always limited to forward moves (toward the opponent).
• A piece making a non-capturing move (not involving a jump) may move only one square.
• A piece making a capturing move (a jump) leaps over one of the opponent's pieces, landing in a straight diagonal line on the other side.
Three serious tournaments by grade level are underway, the first rounds are completed and it’s getting more serious by the day.
Below are the bracket results as of Tuesday.
