She was Ada's Welcome Wagon hostess
The March Vancrest resident spotlight is on a familiar Ada resident, Evelyn “Myrtle” Krofft.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s she was Ada’s Welcome Wagon hostess.
Born in Detroit, she and her husband, Robert, moved to Ada after they were married in 1947.
Evelyn was a stay at home mom until her youngest child was 5. She soon went to work as the produce manager at the Ada IGA Food liner, now known as Community Market.
Evelyn says that she loved to travel with her family, going on many vacations to different states, either tent camping at state parks, sight-seeing, museums, zoos, and even caving.
Her favorite vacations included an Alaskan cruise, various casino trips, and motorcycle road trips with her husband to Florida and Seattle. She found out later in life that she loved roller coasters, discovering them in her late 50s.
She says that her favorite season is fall because she loves to see the leaves change color and it's football time.
Her favorite foods are watermelon and cantaloupe - with salt. Her favorite holiday is her own birthday. And, people who know her well know about her huge elephant collection.
Evelyn has four living children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and spent many years going to all her grandchildren's sporting events, meanwhile spending her "spare" time working on crafting projects, which included knitting, crocheting, gardening and painting.
She enjoys her home at Vancrest where she is often found playing Bingo, making friends and playing cards.
