Ada elementary students (K-5) will participate in the first-ever Ada junior track meet next week.

The event is from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. at the King Horn Fieldhouse on the ONU campus. Medals will be awarded to the top three placers in the following events:
• Long jump
• Ball throw
• 50-yard dash
• 400-meter un

Events will be split into competitive groups of boys and girls:
• Kindergarten-first grade
• Second-third grade
• Fourth-fifth grade

The event is free and students must sign-up to participate. Permission slips are attached at the bottom of this story.

Students returning permission slips to the elementary office by Friday, March 13, will receive a “paw-some” bracelet. Registrations will also be accepted at the check-in gate on the evening of the event.

The track meet is part of the “Dogs and Bears Get Fit” program taking place in March. 

The initiative involves Ada schools in partnership with Ohio Northern University’s HealthWise.

Megan Stephan, pharmacy resident at ONU, leads the program thanks to two grants from the Buckeye Health Plan and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. 

The initiative includes a series of fun events, educational opportunities and competitive collaborations throughout March. All programs are centered on health and wellness, with some for students taking place during the school day and others for families taking place in the evening.
