Letter: Levy is not a new tax
Dear Ada Community:
On March 17, 2020, the Ada School District is seeking a renewal of a .75% income tax levy for a continuing period of time. This is NOT new tax, but a renewal, which means NO new monies. The monies generated from this levy will be used for general operating expenses.
I am Ada High School graduate, the parent of two current students, and the daughter of a retired Ada teacher. I recognize that the district has evolved and grown over the years. I am proud of our district! The Ada School District is without a doubt filled with hard-working, driven students. Our students deserve an atmosphere that reflects their efforts, supports their education, and encourages their success.
The intent of PUBLIC education is to provide all children with an education that prepares them to be productive members of society. It is our responsibility as a community to support our local public school. Education is an investment for our youth, an investment in our community’s future. This investment does not come without a cost because it is so valuable. Traditionally, the Ada community has a very strong history of supporting the education of our children.
I encourage each of you to have your questions answered. Contact a levy committee member, a school board member, or the superintendent. Ask your questions to become be a more informed voter. Voting is a core-function of civic engagement and an important determinant of our community’s well-being. So please, join me in supporting the Ada School District by voting “YES” on March 17.

Chairman of Advancing Ada Schools Levy Committee
