This announcement is from Ada High School concerning this year's Interclass contest.

The show must go on!

In light of the current coronavirus quarantine and online schooling, it seemed that the annual Ada High School Interclass contest was destined to be cancelled for the first time in over 100 years. 

Considering the tradition survived two world wars and The Great Depression, among other newsworthy events, we could not let that happen.  

However, thanks to the magic of technology, the show will go on. 

Interclass 2020 will be a video production that can be accessed by the entire community on the AHS web page and Facebook starting next Monday, April 6.  

Interclass has been an Ada tradition that is unique to our community. It started in 1907 when Superintendent C.H. Freedman proposed an academic competition between the 10th, 11th and 12th grades.  

Interclass celebrates the written and spoken word. Students compete in the areas of essay writing, poetry, short story, and dramatic reading. In each category, one winner has been chosen from each grade after an internal competition within the classes.

This year’s competitors include the following students:

Essay:
Sophomore -- Haley Robirds
Junior -- Kylie Colwell
Senior -- Hunter Wells

Short Story:
Sophomore -- Carmen Mancuso
Junior -- Aleece Al-Olimat
Senior -- Kaylee Huffer

Poetry:
Sophomore -- Ethan Schaffer
Junior -- Cole Anspauch
Senior -- Nathan Hurtig

Dramatic Reading:
Sophomore -- Olivia Thomas
Junior -- Kesewa Akyeampong
Senior -- Josie Poling

Next Monday through Thursday, one category will be introduced and presented each day by Student Council host Kendal Guagenti.  Judges will make their decisions, and winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 14.

Students and other members of the community are encouraged to watch the videos and to vote for their “overall favorite” at the end of the program.

Included in the programming will be videos from Mr. Ames’s “Introduction to Film Class” and a skit from the senior class. 

While this may not be the Interclass we are used to, it will be an event to remember, thanks to the persistence and ingenuity of all involved in making it happen.
