Twin sisters Andrea and Alyson Hoffman, current sophomores attending Ohio Northern University, both suffer from cystic fibrosis (CF).

Andrea and Alyson make it a priority to take daily steps in order to live long and healthy lives. Their goal is to have CF no longer stand for cystic fibrosis but rather cure found.

On Nov. 5, at 8 p.m., Andrea and Alyson will be giving a presentation through Google Meet. The purpose of the presentation is to teach the importance of exercise as a treatment for CF.

On Nov. 7, from noon to 4 p.m. Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) with the Ohio Northern University Track & Field/ XC teams are sponsoring a relay race for ONU students to participate in to raise money for CF while exercising their own lungs.

All Ohio Northern University COVID-19 protocol will be followed throughout the relay event.

Andrea and Alyson Hoffman were both diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) at four months of age. At the time, CF was not in the newborn screening tests in the state of Ohio.

Following their diagnosis, Andrea and Alyson received and are continuing to be treated at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Both girls use exercise as an additional form of treatment and both have run four half-marathons.

The Hoffman twins are very involved with advocating for children with medical handicaps, including CF, in the state. Andrea and Alyson have raised money for the Central Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to strive to make CF stand for cure found. Both girls are very hopeful that the advancements in treatments for the disease will help all living with CF.

“New drugs give all of us the hope of living longer and stronger lives.” Andrea stated. All proceeds of the Cruising Forward to a Cure campaign are going to the Central Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a national foundation that leads the world in awareness of the disease, research for the cure and financial support to make CF drugs widely available. The Foundation helps to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for research and works to increase life expectancy in sufferers by the decades.
