By Cort Reynolds
LIMA - The Ada varsity wrestling team competed well in the Div. III sectional meet at Lima Central Catholic Friday and Saturday.
Allen East won the sectional team title with 222.5 points. Wayne Trace came in second with 197 points.
Ada ended up 12th out of 14 teams at the event with 44 points as three purple and gold matmen made it to the district tournament. The Bulldogs finished just behind Lincolnview, and ahead of tournament host LCC and Crestview.
Bulldog sophomore Antonio Pettit took second in the eight-man 126 lbs. bracket to post the top Ada showing. Seeded second, he got to the finals with a majority decision win and a pin.
Pettit then lost by pin in the title round bout to top seed Jarrett Hornish of Wayne Trace, but will go to districts with an 11-7 record.
Ada freshman Clayton McClain finished third among seven wrestlers in the 113 lbs. division. He went 2-1 to get to the third-place match, where he won a 4-2 decision over freshman Austin Hamilton of Coldwater. At 17-1 this season, he advances to the Troy district.
Fourth seed Colton Biederman went 1-2 and lost in the third-place match to Spencerville sophomore Carder Miller to finish fourth out of six grapplers in the 120 lbs. division. He goes on to districts with a 17-5 season mark.
After receiving a first round bye, second seed Cameron Bober went 0-2 at 152 lbs. to end his senior season with a 13-8 record.
Ada senior Jonathan McClain went 1-2 with a pin at the 220 lbs. bracket to finish 8-9.
Bulldog sophomore Kyle Mattson got a first round bye and went 0-2 in the 170 lbs. division to finish his season 3-14.
