Wills ties ONU career victory record
Senior Mackenzie Wills (Ada) tied the school record for career victories, leading the Ohio Northern women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday afternoon at the West Campus Courts.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-0 on the season and are 4-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-1, 2-1.
Wills won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles for her 172nd career win, tying the mark set by Meghan Letizia from 2012-16.
She is already ONU's all-time career singles wins leader with 88 and is second all-time with an 84-31 mark in doubles matches. She needs only five more doubles wins to tie Letizia's record of 89.
Wills also combined with sophomore Jeorgia Templin (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
ONU won two of the three doubles courts to take a 2-1 lead as senior Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) and sophomore Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Northern then won four of the six singles courts to seal the match.
Landis won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, Curry won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 and senior Jordan Dodson (Worthington) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday at Muskingum.
