Rev. Calvin Waugh participated in 16 mission trips to 31 countries
Rev. Calvin L. Waugh, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 8:51 a.m. at his residence in Alger.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1932, in Osceola, Iowa, to the late Roy and Nellie (Marquis) Waugh. On Dec. 29, 1956, Calvin married Patricia A. Parson and she survives in Alger.
Calvin was a U.S. Army Veteran who served from 1952 to 1954 stationed in Korea. He was an active pastor for 53 years at York Street and Shiloh Heritage Christian Union Churches, Alger First United Methodist Church, and Hepburn and Otterbein United Methodist Church.
Calvin took 16 mission trips to 31 countries. He was a big supporter of Faith Promise Giving. He was awarded in 2002 for devotion to mission education and awareness throughout his ministry from 1972 – 2002 by the West Ohio Conference United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are five sons: Kevin (Rose) Waugh of Alger, Kurtis (Janice) Waugh of Berne, Indiana, Kerwin (Andrea) Waugh of Urbana, Kyle (Dawn) Waugh of Ada and Karlen (Christy) Waugh of Ada; three daughters: Kristina (Don) Phillips of Gray Court, South Carolina, Kayleen (Steven) Holbrook of McGuffey and Katrina Waugh of Cincinnati; 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Katsion.
Attendance will be restricted at the funeral and visitation based on space to accommodate social distancing requirements. Face coverings must be worn while attending visitation and service.
Due to heating issues at the church in Alger, the funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, at the First United Methodist Church of Ada, 301 N. Main St., Ada, with Rev. Tim Benjamin officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger, with graveside military services conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
The funeral service for Calvin will be live streamed on the Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services Facebook Page beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 22.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Alger, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
