Harold Cotsamire worked for Ohio Northern University

Harold E. Cotsamire, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 4:36 PM at the Homestead Assisted Living in Van Wert.

He was born on June 17, 1932, in Crawford County, Ohio to Melvin and Ruth (Guinther) Cotsamire, who preceded him in death, as well as his stepmother, Hazel (Leuthold) Cotsamire. Harold married Doris M. Clausing on July 3, 1955; they were married for 61 years prior to her death on September 13, 2016.   

Harold is survived by his two children: Douglas (Ron Roman) Cotsamire of Oak Park, IL and Diane (Jeff) Hood of Van Wert; a son-in-law, Dan (Molly) Wagner of Kenton; four grandchildren: Matt Wagner of Strasburg, Shelly (Nick) Wyllie of Franklin, TN, Natalie (Cody) LeMay of Ft. Wayne, IN and Jacob Hood of Hawaii; four great grandsons: Mason Wagner, Aidan Wyllie, Calvi LeMay and Elias LeMay; and a sister-in-law, Betty Cotsamire of Loveland, CO.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Wagner in 1997; four brothers: Edward, James, Carl, and Loren Cotsamire; a stepbrother, Richard Cotsamire; and a brother-in-law, Robert Clausing.

Harold retired as Controller from Ohio Northern University, after thirty-three years of service. He then served as treasurer of the Ada Schools for three years.  He was a member of the Ada First United Methodist Church since 1957. He and his wife were NOMAD volunteers for seventeen years after retirement. He was a 1950 graduate of Bucyrus High School and a 1954 graduate of the Ohio State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  Harold was a U.S. Army veteran who served from 1955 to 1957 in Japan.  Harold was a member of the Ada Senior Citizens and the former Hix and Chix Square Dance Club.  During his latter years he led “Harold’s Exercise Group” in the fellowship hall of the Methodist church for the community.  

A celebration of life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main Street, Ada, Ohio 45810. Burial of ashes will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ada First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or the Clausing/Cotsamire Scholarship Fund at Ohio Northern University, Ada.
