Three Ada Girl Scouts from Troop 2006 have spent more than a year on a project at Ada's Dog Park. Emma Lambdin, Jordyn Smith and Allysa Nau have created new features for the park while earning the Silver Award.

On Saturday, August 27, Ada Area Chamber of Commerce director Lindsay Walden joined the scouts for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the park, 525 E Lehr Ave., where the girls demostrated four new obstacles they built. 

The girls explained that they wanted to see more for dogs to do at the fenced-in, off-leash park. They created new features in both the small dog and large dog sections of park. QR codes are located at the entrance explaining how the obstacles work. There is also a new leash rack.

Four dogs--Dude, Malibu, Delta and Rose--enthusiastically joined in the fun with Delta demonstrating how the obstacles work. Treats made by the scouts rewarded the dogs for their participation.

The requirements for a Silver Award project for Cadettes are 1) that the issue affect your community, 2) that it can lead to a lasting change, 3) that the plan is put into motion 4) that you share and celebrate your story.

Troop leader Martha Nau told the Icon that there are several troops in Ada with new troops formed each year. Scouting levels from youngest to oldest are Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Seniors and Ambassadors.
