AHS girls basketball stifled by #11 Leipsic

The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team started slowly and lost 51-15 at league leader Leipsic in Northwest Conference play Thursday, February 2.

Ada fell to 10-10 overall and 0-7 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, first-place Leipsic improved to 18-1 and 7-0 in the NWC after the win.

Leipsic ran out to a 13-0 lead after the first period and never trailed. The 11th-ranked Vikings led 34-6 at halftime and 44-1 after three quarters.

Senior guard Courtney Sumner led Ada with eight points. Olivia Burkhart sank the lone Bulldog trifecta.

Whitney Langhals scored a dozen points for the Vikings. Kyrsten Martinez also netted 12 points on four triples.

Ada canned five deuces and a single triple for just six total baskets. The Bulldog girls converted two of five free throws (40 percent). 

Leipsic drilled 14 two-point field goals and hit six triples. The Vikings converted five of six foul shots (83 percent). 

Ada won the two-quarter reserve contest, 10-6.

Leipsic will visit fellow league unbeaten Delphos Jefferson (6-0 NWC) for the NWC title in their conference finale, a makeup game showdown.

Ada hosts non-league foe Waynesfield (8-10) Tuesday, February 7. The Bulldogs then end the regular season at Spencerville (9-11, 2-5 NWC) Thursday, Feb. 9.

"We just have to be ready to go and move on from tonight," said Lady Bulldog head coach Zach Ricker. "Waynesfield is a team that is going to play hard and compete."
