Bulldog softball loss at Arcadia

ARCADIA– The visiting Ada High School softball team lost 8-3 at Arcadia in a non-league contest Saturday morning.
Ada fell to 16-5 overall after their second straight road loss. Arcadia improved to 11-6 after the win.
“Arcadia is a solid team,” said Ada head coach Jeff Bassitt. “Jordyn Tong is a good pitcher and she was on today. We needed to be more selective in pitches we swung at.”
Bulldog sophomore Jenna Bassitt struck out 12 batters, but suffered her fourth loss in 18 decisions this spring. Bassitt hit a double and a single.
Sophomore shortstop Karley Wagner smacked a double.
Sophomore Belah Price and freshman Alainee Buxton each singled.
Bassitt scored the first Ada run in the second inning. She doubled and advanced to third base. Kayla Wince laid down a bunt, and Bassitt sped home as the throw went to first base.
But Arcadia tallied five runs in the first two frames and never trailed. The Redskins stretched the lead to 7-2 after four innings. Each team added a single run later.
Redskin pitcher Jordyn Tong struck out 12 Bulldogs. She also slugged a double and stroked a single.
Arcadia catcher Emily Rank hit a double and singled.
Ada left the bases loaded twice but couldn’t come up with the clutch hit to get back in contention.
The Redskins out-hit Ada, 9-5. The Bulldogs committed five errors while Arcadia made one miscue.

The Bulldogs remain one victory short of tying the school single-season record for wins set by the 17-9 team of 2018.
Ada added a home game Tuesday, May 9 vs. Green Meadows Conference member Wayne Trace (8-11, 2-5 GMC) to its schedule.
“We need to get back on track and have a good practice Monday to get ready for Wayne Trace Tuesday,” said Bassitt.
The Bulldog girls then host St. Henry (11-11) or Ridgemont (5-13) in the Div. IV sectional finals Thursday.
