Bulldog baseball run-rules Vanlue
By Cort Reynolds
VANLUE–The visiting Ada High School baseball team jumped to a huge early lead and run-ruled Vanlue 16-1 in a non-conference game Friday, May 5.
The Bulldog boys improved to 5-13 overall with the convincing five-inning win. The Wildcats fell to 0-13 with the blowout defeat.
“It was a great team effort,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “We only made one error in the field, and had timely hitting. Hopefully, it is a sign of things to come.”
Ada ran off to a huge early lead to put the Wildcats away. The Bulldogs tallied four runs in each of the first two innings, then plated six runs in the third to build a commanding 14-0 cushion.
Max Puerto walked and stole a base to ignite the first inning. Jacob Sutherly singled to drive him home. Levi Green singled, and Roman Snyder then followed with a two-run single.
In the Ada second Kaine Fisher, Puerto and Sutherly singled, followed by an error. Spencer Wall singled home another run to make it 8-0.
In the third, Ada blew the game open with six runs. Two errors and a Fisher single started the big inning. Puerto slapped an RBI single, followed by a single from Sutherly, and walks to Green and Snyder.
Four passed balls and a sacrifice fly RBI off the bat of Wall helped the Ada line keep moving and extend the lead to 14-0.
Ada added two more runs in the fourth on three singles and three hit batsmen. Snyder and Wall collected RBI singles in the fourth to make it 16-0.
Arcadia scored its lone run in the home fifth before the 10-run rule was invoked.
Ada hurler Levi Sousley struck out five over five innings of five-hit baseball to earn the win. He aided his own cause with two runs, two RBI and one hit.
Sutherly collected three hits, three runs and one RBI. Puerto had two hits, scored four runs and drove in two. Wall amassed two hits and three RBI. Snyder drove in three runs with a hit and scored once.
Fisher compiled two hits and two runs. Green scored three runs and singled.
Ada out-hit Vanlue 13-5, with all singles. The Bulldogs stole 10 bases, led by three swipes from Snyder. Puerto, Green and Sutherly each stole two bags.
Ada left eight runners on base, while Vanlue stranded five.
The Bulldogs host Arlington Tuesday, May 9.
