Summary of January 20 Ada school board meeting
Roof repairs, electronic controls update and K-12 expansion to be addressed
By Paula Pyzik Scott
The Board of Education of the Ada Exempted Village Schools held a rare Saturday afternoon meeting on January 20 in coordination with required training for its members.
The meeting included a presentation by Sara Little of Energy Optimizers USA on the opportunity to utilize Ohio Council of Educational Purchasing Consortia contracts for HVAC and roofing. The school building has an urgent need for work on the flat roofs, which have been leaking in places.
The board also heard from Quinn Maceyko of the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) on the opportunity to hire the association to conduct the superintendent search. OSBA provides a comprehensive service from advertising the opening to transition training. The schools are currently served by interim superintendent Dennis Recker.
In New Business, the board discussed facility planning and expansion, and the need to choose between proposals from architectural firms Fanning Howel and Garmann-Miller. Classroom space and storage is at full capacity;
a state requirement to provide an additional preschool classroom has made the issue time sensitive. Contract approval is expected at the February 22 meeting of the board.
RESOLUTIONS
The school board unanimously approved a resolution for roof improvements at the K-12 building, authorizing a contract with Energy Optimizers USA. The project cost is designated as not to exceed $176,520.
The school board unanimously approved a resolution for electronic controls improvement in the K-12 building, authorizing a contract with Energy Optimizers USA. The project cost is designated as not to exceed $561,360.
SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENTS
Dennis Recker presented the board members with certificates on the occasion of School Board member appreciation month. He noted that this was the 31st certificate to be presented to Ron Fleming and that Fleming “could almost paper a wall.”
