For two weeks, students at Ada Elementary participated in a United Way Souper Bowl canned food drive to benefit four Hardin County outreach programs. The youngsters proved that they are able to do some heavy lifting: they brought in a grand total of 1,854 items, more than enough to fill the large pickup truck used to transport the donations.
The class with the most items donated was Mrs. Williams’-Mrs. Morgan's kindergarten class with 438 cans. This first place class will receive a pizza party.
In second place was Mrs. Daniels’ 3rd grade class with 391 cans. Third place went to Mrs. Woodruff’s 2nd grade class with 221.

The United Way of Hardin County director Martha Nau responded that “we are super thankful for them and the way that they’ve helped the community.” She explained that many of the county food distributors were low on canned goods, leading the non-profit to come up with the “Souper Bowl” theme. There are currently more people in need of food assistance than usual.
Working with the United Way of Hardin County, students brought in canned goods for Beatitudes (Ada), Helping Hands, The Neighborhood Opportunity Center and the New Hope Ministries Homeless Shelter (Kenton).
