Ada girls basketball loss at Red Devils
By Cort Reynolds
ARLINGTON - The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team started well but went cold and lost 40-27 to Arlington in a defensive Blanchard Valley Conference battle Thursday, January 30.
Ada led 22-18 at halftime after authoring a 15-10 second period. But the Bulldogs mustered only five second-half points and got outscored 22-5 to lose by 13.
The Bulldog record dropped to 2-16 overall and 0-8 in the BVC after the road defeat. Arlington improved to 7-11 overall and 2-6 in BVC play with the victory.
“In the first half we scored quite a bit by breaking their press,” said Ada head coach Zach Ricker. “In the second half, they played halfcourt man defense and pressured the ball, and didn’t allow anything easy.”
Ada junior post Anna Conley led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Mariah Burns netted six markers and Ashley Hevlin added four.
The Red Devils were led by Jada Smith and Madison Ernst, who scored 11 points apiece.
“Overall, I felt the girls did a great job,” said Ricker. “Some had to play in spots they don’t ever play, with us being without Emily (Gibson) and Lexi (Poling).”
Ada canned 11 deuces and drained one triple. The Bulldogs converted two of five foul shots (40 percent).
Arlington sank nine two-pointers and drained four treys. The Red Devils converted 10 of 23 free throws (43 percent).
