Bulldog baseball shuts out Vanlue

VANLUE – The visiting Ada High School baseball team blanked Vanlue 12-0 to capture their first-ever Blanchard Valley Conference victory Monday, April 7.
Ada led 2-0 after the first inning, and then blew the game open with six runs in the second frame.
The Bulldogs tacked on two runs in each of the third and fourth frames to invoke the 10-run mercy rule after five frames.
“It was a nice team win,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “We are improving each game.”
Ada improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the BVC after the blowout league road victory. Vanlue dropped to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in BVC play with the defeat.
The Bulldogs out-hit the Wildcats, 12-2.
Senior shortstop Levi Green hit three singles, scored three runs and drove in a run. The speedy leadoff hitter also stole two bases.
Sophomore catcher Andrew Allen rapped out three hits, scored three runs and had two runs batted in. He also walked once and stole a base.
First baseman Mason Wibley smacked two hits, had two RBI and scored a run. Wibley also swiped two bags.
Pitcher/first baseman Wes Mowery collected two hits, a walk and a run. He also pitched three scoreless innings to get the win. He gave up no hits, walked one and struck out six.
Wibley allowed one hit and no runs in one inning of relief. Brody Rister hurled an inning of relief. He struck out one and gave up a hit.
Left fielder Connor McKean singled, scored a run and also stole two bags. Senior center fielder Kaine Fisher had a hit, scored once and stole two bases. Sophomore third baseman Blake Zoladz swiped a pair of bags and scored a run.
Ada left seven runners on base, while Vanlue stranded six.
The Bulldogs swiped 12 bases and drew six walks.
Ada is slated to play at league foe McComb (0-4, 0-1 BVC) Wednesday. The Bulldogs visit former NWC foe Spencerville (1-3) Thursday. Ada is scheduled to play at North Baltimore (0-2) Saturday.
