Bassitt earns seventh win of the season
SPENCERVILLE __ The visiting Ada High School softball team shut out former NWC rival Spencerville 10-0 with a run-rule shortened no-hitter on a cold Thursday evening, April 10.
Ada senior ace Jenna Bassitt fired a five-inning no-hitter to earn her seventh win of the season. She struck out eight Bearcats to record the win.
The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the second and third innings, and rolled to their fourth straight victory.
“It was nice to get another win and play solid defense,” said fourth-year Bulldog head coach Jeff Bassitt.
Ada improved to 7-1 overall with the road win. Spencerville fell to 1-5 after the lopsided loss.
The Bulldog girls out-hit the Bearcats, 13-0. The hosts committed three errors while Ada made no miscues.
Ada plated three runs in the second inning, and tallied four more in the third. A three-run fifth frame invoked the 10-run mercy rule after Bassitt retired the Bearcats without a hit in the bottom of the fifth.
Bulldog hits were recorded by freshman Emily Shanks, senior Karley Wagner, senior Aidra Preston, sophomore Dailah Preston, junior Alainee Buxton, Bassitt and sophomore Reese Jordan.
Ada is scheduled to play at non-league foe Kalida (2-6) Saturday.
