ADA – The Ada High School baseball team pounded visiting non-league foe Lima Temple Christian 11-1 and held the Pioneers hitless on an overcast Tuesday evening, May 13.
Ada starter Mason Wibley (five innings) and Brody Rister combined to hurl a six-inning, run-rule shortened no-hitter to pave the way to victory.
Wibley struck out three and walked two over five hitless frames to earn the win. Rister struck out the side in order in his lone inning to close it out.
“It was a great effort by the kids,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “We played well in all phases. Hopefully, we are playing our best baseball at the right time.”
Ada improved to 5-15 with the one-sided victory. Temple Christian fell to 1-10 after the loss.
The Bulldogs out-hit the Pioneers 10-0, and drew two walks. The Bulldogs made four errors, while TC also committed four miscues.
Ada sophomore catcher Andrew Allen drove in three runs with a double and a single. He also scored two runs and stole a base.
Shortstop Levi Green singled twice, stole three bases and scored two runs. He was also hit by a pitch once. Center fielder Kaine Fisher smacked two doubles and scored a run.
Freshman right fielder Thad Smith singled two times, scored twice and swiped three bags. Ada stole nine bases.
Rister drove in a run, walked and stole a base. Third baseman Blake Zoladz singled, hit a sacrifice fly, drove in a run, scored once and swiped a bag.
Wibley aided his own cause with a single, a walk, one RBI and one run scored.
TC scored an unearned run in the top of the first to take a short-lived lead. Ada seized the lead with a three-run home first, then pushed two runs across in the second to go ahead 5-1.
Ada then tallied two runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth frames to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.
The Bulldogs left four runners on base, while Temple stranded six.
