Memorial benches donated to Ada VFW and War Memorial Park
By Paula Pyzik Scott
Five large wood benches will provide new seating at Ada's War Memorial Park come spring, thanks to D Squared Construction of Alger. The company has a tradition of supporting area veterans' organizations with an annual project. This year Ream- McElroy VFW Post 9381 was the recipient and, in turn, the post identified the Liberty Township park as the best location for the memorial benches.
D Squared constructed the benches with lumber donated by Lowe's of Lima. Black lettering on the benches memorializes 21 Ada veterans and lists who died in battle or were prisoners of war (names below).
Benches were delivered to the park on Friday, December 19, with the following individuals representing the organizations involved (Photo, L-R): Wynn Hauenstein (VFW), Paul Fletcher and Bob Szuch (Park Board), Ken Wolke (Park Manager), Andy Dilts (D Squared owner), Darrian Lease, Jesse Houchins (D Squared crew), John Ball (Charcuterie John).
