Ada wrestlers 11^th in sectionals, 4 advance to district competition

LIMA__The Ada High School wrestling team produced one champion and four district qualifiers from the Div. III Northwest wrestling sectionals at Lima Central Catholic on Saturday, February 28.

The Bulldog matmen finished 11^th at the 15-team tournament with 69 points. Four Ada grapplers qualified for the district tournament in Troy next weekend with top-four finishes in their weight class.

Paulding nosed out perennial power Allen East to win the sectional team crown, 154.5 points to 150. Host LCC finished a close third (143.5), with Coldwater (142) and Spencerville (141.5) right behind them in the tightly-bunched field.

Ada senior Silas Riblet won the 126 lbs. sectional championship with a 3-0 record and three pins. After a first-round bye, the top seed won his quarterfinal match by pin in 1:36. In the semifinals, he pinned his opponent in 2:11.

In the championship bout, Riblet pinned sophomore Kyllan Martin of LCC in 3:58 to claim the crown. He advances to the district tournament with a fine 34-5 record this season.

Ada freshman Carter Dunlap took second place in the 106 lbs. class. Seeded second, he received two byes into the semifinals. He then won by pin in 66 seconds to reach the finals.

In the title round bout, Dunlap lost to top-seeded sophomore Grant Grubb of Crestview by pin at 4:40. He qualified for the district tourney with a 22-12 record.

Ada senior Zaiden Denslow finished fourth in the 120 lbs. bracket. He got two byes, then lost to eventual 120 champion Langston McClain of Allen East in the semis by technical fall, 20-5.

In the consolation bracket, he won his first match by 10-6 decision to reach the third-place match. Denslow lost by pin in 4:39 to finish fourth and make it to the district meet with an 8-15 season mark.

Junior Kale Pedersen also finished fourth in the 138 lbs. division with a 3-2 mark on the day. He lost his first round match by TF 17-2 to drop into the consolation bracket. 

Once there, he had a bye and then won three consecutive matches by pin in times of 1:20, 2:34 and 1:31, respectively. In the third-place bout, Pedersen was pinned by Parkway senior Maddox Houts at the 2:50 mark.

Pedersen also made it to districts with a 13-18 season record.

The top four finishers per weight class qualified for the district tournament at Hobart Arena in Troy on March 6-7.

In the 175 lbs. division, Ada sophomore Ethan Carl went 1-2 with a 5-0 decision win to end his season with a 13-17 mark.

Senior Peyton Karsten was 0-2 after getting a first-round bye in the 215 lbs. bracket to conclude his season 10-24.

At 157 lbs., Ada sophomore Eli Craig got two byes and went 0-2 to end his season at 15-21.

Bulldog sophomore Colt Archer competed in the 165 lbs. bracket. He was 0-2 after a first-round bye.

Top four wrestlers from the sectionals at Lima Central Catholic, Mechanicsburg, Blanchester and Versailles advanced to the Troy district tournament.

Fifth-place finishers are alternates for the district tournament.
