Bulldog baseball nipped by Spencerville

ADA__The Ada High School baseball team led almost the entire game, but lost a 2-1 heartbreaker to visiting non-conference foe Spencerville on an unseasonably warm Thursday, April 9.
The Bulldogs led 1-0 after the first inning, and Ada pitching shut the Bearcats out until the seventh inning.
The Bearcats plated two runs in their final at bat to take a 2-1 lead, then held Ada scoreless in the home seventh to pull off the comeback win.
The Bulldogs dropped to 4-2 overall with the difficult defeat. Spencerville improved to 2-4 overall after the victory.
“It was a quality baseball game,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “I am proud of the kids and how they played. Looking forward to getting after it Friday to get better.”
The Bearcats out-hit the Bulldogs, 7-4. The Bulldogs made two errors while the visitors committed one error.
Ada scored the game’s first run when Robert Shanks singled home Thad Smith.
Mason Wibley, Wes Mowery and Colt Archer singled for the other Ada hits. Archer also stole two bases.
Shanks hurled the first three innings, shutting out the Bearcats while scattering three walks and two hits.
Brody Rister relieved and pitched two scoreless frames. He gave up one hit, walked one and struck out one. Mowery tossed the final two frames. He allowed four hits and two earned runs to absorb the tough loss. He struck out two and walked one.
The Bearcats left 11 runners on base, while Ada stranded six runners.
Ada is scheduled to host non-league foe North Baltimore (5-4) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
