Bulldog baseball win vs. North Baltimore

ADA – The Ada High School baseball team played a solid game to defeat visiting North Baltimore 5-2 in a non-league contest on Saturday, April 11.
The Bulldogs led 2-1 after the first inning. Both teams plated a run in the third frame. Ada then put the game away with two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 overall with the victory. North Baltimore dropped to 5-5 after the defeat.
“It was a team effort win,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “We faced two quality pitchers and found a way to get it done. Our pitchers and fielders did enough to get the win.”
The Bulldogs out-hit the Tigers, 8-3. Ada made four errors and gave up one unearned run. NB committed two errors, leading to two unearned Bulldog scores.
Ada’s Robert Shanks singled twice, scored a run and drove in one run. He also earned the win with 4.7 innings of one-hit relief. He struck out three and walked two.
Bulldog Mason Wibley hurled the first 2.3 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. He walked one and whiffed one.
Left fielder Brody Rister singled two times, walked and drove in one run.
Shortstop Wes Mowery knocked out two hits. DH Logan Fleece singled home a run.
Second baseman Thad Smith singled, stole a base, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Catcher Andrew Allen walked, was also hit by a pitch and swiped two bags.
Tiger Drew Meggit doubled for the game’s lone extra-base hit. He also took the pitching loss after throwing four innings of six-hit ball. He struck out six and walked one, allowing three earned runs.
NB shortstop Zander South hit two singles and scored a run.
Ada left nine runners on base, while NB stranded six runners.
Shanks threw 30 of his 51 pitches for strikes, while Wibley tossed 49 pitches with 30 for strikes or in play. Sixty of exactly 100 Bulldog pitches were strikes or in play.
Ada (1-1 BVC) is scheduled to host Blanchard Valley Conference leader Elmwood (4-3-1, 3-0 BVC) in a key game on Monday, April 11.
