DAYTON__The Ada High School baseball team led through four frames but lost 4-2 to non-conference rival Perry at Dayton’s Day Air Stadium on Friday, April 17.
The Bulldogs led 2-0 heading to the fifth inning after tallying single runs in the second and fourth.
Perry plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth, and then added a key insurance run in the sixth to pull off the comeback win.
“It was a great opportunity for the boys,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith of playing at the minor league venue. “We pitched well enough to win but didn’t get the rest done. We will get back after it and keep trying to improve.”
The Bulldogs were out-hit 6-4 as Perry slugged three doubles and a triple.
Ada committed four errors and the Commodores made three miscues.
Ada dropped to 6-5 with the defeat, while Perry improved to 5-2 after the win.
Bulldog starting pitcher Wes Mowery collected two hits. Xavier Smith hit a single, and Logan Fleece added the other Bulldog hit.
Mowery hurled 4.3 innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits. He walked none and struck out six.
Robert Shanks relieved and pitched the final 1.7 frames. Perry got two hits and an unearned run with Shanks on the mound as he walked two with a strikeout.
Gilbert doubled home a run for Perry. Douce delivered an RBI triple.
Ada left six runners on base, while the Commodores stranded seven baserunners. Brody Rister and Brody Van Atta scored the two Bulldog runs.
