James L. Vermillion, 1932-2013
James L. Vermillion, age 80, died on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 8:55 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.
He was born on November 22, 1932 in Waynesfield, Ohio to Cletus G. and Ethel J. (Gossard) Vermillion and they preceded him in death. On May 25, 1952 he married Marcia E. Connor and she survives in LaFayette.
Jim retired from Easter Tire, Lima. He was a member and Deacon of the LaFayette Congregational Christian Church. He was a 1951 graduate of LaFayette-Jackson High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of the SPEBSQSA Barber Shop Chorus and the King's Glory Quartet. Jim coached basketball for the Allen County Special Olympics.
Also surviving is a son, Jeffrey (Dena) Vermillion of Wellington; three daughters: Jamie (Gary) Ward, Melanie (Brad) Winegardner and Erin Vermillion all of LaFayette; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Camille) Vermillion of Lima.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Brooks Vermillion and Robert Vermillion; two sisters: Louella Stephens and Shirley Lawrence.
A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, at LaFayette Congregational Christian Church at 205 West Main Street, LaFayette, Ohio with Pastor Robert Brown and Pastor Charles Gordon officiating.
Burial will be in LaFayette Cemetery, LaFayette. A graveside military service will be conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 30, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
