ADA__The Ada High School girls soccer team defeated visiting local rival Allen East 3-0 in their annual non-league grudge match on a warm Saturday afternoon, August 29.

Ada improved to 5-0-1 with the War Memorial Stadium win. AE dropped to 0-3 after the loss.

“I think the 1 p.m. start on a Saturday with warmer temperatures and after ending the first full week of school, it is understandable for us to be a little flat,” said head coach Doug Dewese. 

“We had a lot of good individual efforts, we just struggled to glue them together into a strong team effort,” he observed. “Credit to Allen East also. They played tough and kept working despite a very trying time they have been going through and adjusting to.”

Former Mustang coach Steve Roeder stepped back in to take over the program after the AE coach passed away unexpectedly.

Ada junior Rose Baxter tallied the first goal on a throw-in assist from sophomore Shay Smith.

Smith then netted the second goal on a pretty header as Baxter returned the favor for an assist via a corner kick.

Bulldog sophomore Aubry Jordan scored the third goal with an unassisted header.

Ada dominated the game, getting off 26 shots vs. zero by AE.

“I know walking away from the game with a victory is always the end goal, but sometimes it is not as satisfying when you know you left a lot of opportunities on the table,” said Dewese. “We played flat, and it showed, and credit to the ladies because at halftime and after the game they owned it.

“Obviously scoring some header goals with assists is a good thing,” he noted. “We are still finding the ability to get shots off and keep teams pinned in their end, even on a flat day.”

Ada has outscored its opposition 24-1 this season, and has out-shot them 113-18 so far.

The Bulldog girls play at Delphos Jefferson (2-2) on Thursday, Sept. 3.
