JV team scrimmages Waynesfield-Goshen

FOSTORIA__The Ada High School golf team finished second in a four-team match at the Fostoria Country Club on Monday, September 14.

Elmwood won the event with 169 strokes, 12 shots ahead of Ada at 181. Host Arcadia was two strokes behind the Bulldogs in third at 183, while host Fostoria finished a distant fourth (229).

The second-place finish improved the Bulldog season record to 42-4.

Ada’s low scorer was sophomore Arden Shook with a respectable 43, shot on a course no one on the Bulldog team was familiar with.

Also on Tuesday evening, Ada sent a full junior varsity squad to Prairie View Golf Course to scrimmage Waynesfield-Goshen. Ada’s low scorer was junior D.J. Howell with a solid 49, achieved in a match several golfers were not able to finish due to darkness.

In addition to Howell, others getting vital competition experience for Ada were freshmen Lance Jones, Luke Fisher, Ethan Hollar and Lincoln Maris.

“This core group of mostly underclassmen are going to be the foundation for our program in the coming seasons, and I thank AD Ken Jochins for arranging the match,” said Ada head coach Tod Schmidt. 

“We are fortunate to have a historically large team this year and to able to prepare future varsity golfers with opportunities like this,” he noted.

Ada’s next tournament is the third and final BVC league meet Friday morning at Moose Landing near Kalida. Van Buren has won the first two BVC tourneys, while Ada finished second both times.

“If Ada’s golfers just play to their normal scoring average, we should be very competitive at the conference final,” reasoned assistant coach Isaac Myers. “We will have a strong, focused week of practice and matches to be ready to compete at a high level.”
