HARROD__Ada High School freshman Brooklyn Rister competed as an individual in the girls Div. II tournament at Colonial Hills Golfers Club in Harrod on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and finished 11th in a field of 53 golfers.

Rister had an 18-hole round score of 49-52=101. Only the top three teams and three individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to districts. Rister ended up four shots behind the last qualifier. 

“On Tuesday, we pulled freshman Brooklyn Rister off of the boys team where she had played all year, and watched her compete in the girls sectional at Colonial Hills as an individual,” said Ada head golf coach Tod Schmidt. 

“The course conditions made it unbelievably challenging for all the competitors,” he observed. “Playing in a steady light, cold rain following several days of heavy rain, the scores were significantly higher than they would typically shoot. 

“Brooklyn finished as the second-best freshman at the end of the tournament–and in the top 20 percent overall–but missed the cut for the top three individuals advancing to districts by just one position.

“Despite not advancing, it is clear Brooklyn will be able to compete against anyone in the coming seasons,” he noted.

Alyssa Froning of Coldwater shot 43-45=88 to win the girls Div. II sectional title. New Bremen won the girls team crown by 25 strokes over second-place St. Henry, 382-407. Coldwater was the third qualifier at 432.
