Ada boys soccer win at Northwood; Allen scores 4
By Cort Reynolds
NORTHWOOD__The visiting Ada High School boys soccer team ended a six-game road swing on a high note by beating new North Central Ohio Soccer Association member Northwood 6-1 on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The Bulldogs improved to 7-6-1 overall and finished 2-4 in the rugged NCOSA after the road win. Miller City leads the league at 4-0.
Northwood fell to 4-10-1 and 1-3 in the NCOSA after the home loss.
Ada led 4-1 at halftime and was never seriously threatened. Senior speedster Andrew Allen pumped in four goals to pace the onslaught.
“A good way to finish up our sixth road game in a row,” enthused Ada head coach Aaron Acheson. “This was our first time playing Northwood, who are in their first year in the NCOSA. It was a beautiful day and a great field to play on, and I'm happy to see the boys come away with another victory and another league win.
“Northwood is a young team that competes and plays hard,” he offered.
Ada started the scoring 14 minutes into the first half when Rhett Ulrey assisted a goal by Chase Jarrett.
“I was also happy with the way we scored our first goal,” said Acheson. “The ball was played out wide into space, and Rhett Ulrey played a nice ball across the goal that found Chase Jarrett making a great run onto it for the finish. Great teamwork on that goal.”
Senior ace Allen then quickly netted consecutive unassisted goals in the 22nd and 21st minutes to extend the lead to 3-0.
Braxton Jennings tallied his first varsity goal off a rebound from a shot by Jarrett with 17 minutes left in the half. Northwood netted its lone goal a minute later to pull within 4-1.
With 26 minutes to play in the second half, Jennings got his first varsity assist on Allen’s third goal to make it 5-1.
Five minutes later, Will Mosler assisted Allen’s fourth goal to provide the final margin.
“I enjoyed seeing Braxton Jennings score his first varsity goal and record his first varsity assist,” said Acheson. “Andrew Allen was able to finish on a couple of well-played balls into him from Will Mosler and Braxton Jennings. It was good to see those combinations working well together.
”It was also nice to see Wyatt Fisher back on the field after missing the last four games,” he added.
Ada keeper Jacob Rush made seven saves in goal.
The Bulldogs went 3-2-1 on their road swing. They return home for the final three regular season games, starting with a contest vs. tough Kalida (9-2-2) on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
