Ohio Northern University named Tree Campus USA for fifth time
Ohio Northern University has been named a Tree Campus USA for the fifth time by the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation.
Tree Campus USA, a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. To obtain this distinction, Ohio Northern University met the five core standards for effective campus forest management: a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and student service-learning projects.
Terry Keiser, director of the ONU Nature Center and director of sustainability, said, “This is part of the University’s efforts to support sustainability and our environment.”
The Tree Campus USA program is supported by a grant from Toyota. More information can be found at www.arborday.org/treecampususa.
Ohio Northern University’s quality, student-centered education distinctively combines nationally ranked sciences, arts and professional programs for more than 3,600 students in its five colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Pharmacy and Law.
