Charla Mankey taught art at USV from 1971 to 2010
Charla Roxanne (Cronk) Mankey, 69, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 9:10 a.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born on September 11, 1944 in Danville, Ill., to parents Dr. John and Rosemary (Gunn) Cronk and they preceded her in death. Charla graduated from Superior Central High School in 1962 and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelors Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. In 1972 she married Steven Mankey and he survives in Ada.
Charla was a high school art teacher at Upper Scioto Valley Schools from 1971 until she retired in 2010. She was a member of the Ohio Art Education Association, was one of the original founders of the Harvest and Herb Festival, and was responsible for the art show at the Hardin County Fair for several years.
Also surviving are three children: Rachael Mankey Smith of Grand Blanc, Mich., Breeanna Becker of Glen Burnie, Md. and Natalie Mankey of Columbus; six grandchildren: Halie Setterstrom, Alexis Smith, Jadynne Smith, Zoe Becker, Tre Smith and Miles Becker; a sister, Rhoda (Steve) Wills of Munising, Mich.; and a brother, Charles Cronk of Clearwater, Fla.
She was preceded in death by son William Destry Chase.
A celebration of Charla Mankey's life will be held at the Mankey residence on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., when all her grandchildren, family and friends can be present.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Charla Mankey's name to the Upper Scioto Valley Art Department.
