Ernest Hopson was a Ford plant employee for nearly 40 years; active in Ada events
Ernest E. Hopson, Jr., 77, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 12:50 p.m. at his residence in Ada, surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born Oct. 2, 1936, in Auxier, Kentucky, to Ernest E. and Marie (Webb) Hopson, Sr. who preceed him in death. On July 23, 1956, he married Harlene Sue Wells and she survives in Ada. They just celebrated 58 years of marriage.
He worked at Field's Bakery in Ada and drove a truck for Omar Bakery in Columbus prior to working at Ford. He retired from the Ford Motor Company, Lima Ford Engine Plant in 2000 after nearly 40 years. He also sold real estate for VanDeMark Realty, then later for Century 21 Beacon Realty. He was a member of the U.A.W. and the Masonic Lodge.
He had been an EMT for Ada/Liberty Township. He was a member of the Church of Christ Disciples, Ada, where he was an adult Sunday school teacher. He was a 1956 graduate of Ada High School. He also helped with the Ada midget football program.
Also surviving are three sons; Jeffrey (Sally) Hopson of Modesto, Calif., David (Rachele) Hopson of Ada, and Vaughn Hopson of Winter Haven, Fla.; a daughter; Gina Powell of Alger; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three brothers; Melvin (Saundra) Hopson of Westminster, Rev. Paul (Janice) Hopson of Springfield, Tenn., and Kenneth Hopson of Dunkirk; a sister Doris Curlis also of Dunkirk.
He was preceded in death by a brother Larry R. Hopson, Sr.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Minister Clyde McCall officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m.on Sunday, Aug. 3, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Church of Christ Disciples, Hardin County Hospice or Charity of the Donor's Choice.
