Ted Celeste featured in "death penalty" discussion April 10
Ohio Northern University's International Law Society to present discussion about ending Ohio's death penalty
Ohio Northern University’s International Law Society presents “Ohio House Bill 160: The Execution of Justice Bill” in the Pettit College of Law’s Celebrezze Moot Court Room on Tuesday, April 10, at 7 p.m.
The speaker for the event will be Ohio State Representative Ted Celeste, who will discuss why he is sponsoring a bill to end the state’s death penalty.
The presentation will cover four main points: recent advancements in DNA tests that have demonstrated the presence of wrongful convictions, the financial savings associated with eliminating the death penalty, questions raised by equal treatment, and the myth of deterrence when threatened with the death penalty.
Celeste was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives 24th District seat in 2006. Currently, he serves as the president of Celeste and Associates Real Estate Inc. in Franklin County. He has served as president of the Grandview/Marble Cliff Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Governing Board of First Community Church, and a member of the SciTech and Tech Columbus boards.
In the 129th General Assembly, Celeste serves on the Education Committee, the Economic and Small Business Development Committee, and the State Government and Elections Committee. He also is the co-chair of both the Children’s Caucus and Mental Health Caucus, while being active in the Autism Caucus. Celeste recently served his appointed post as commissioner representing Ohio on the Midwestern Higher Education Commission Compact and currently serves on the Midwestern Legislative Conference Energy Committee. Recently, Celeste was named vice chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Legislative Effectiveness Committee.
This event is free and open to the public.
