The Ada Boy Scouts Troop 124 met recently at the St. Mark¹s Lutheran Church for their Court of Honor. This is a ceremony run by the boys to honor their achievements and advancements.

The Master of Ceremonies was Aaron Spar, who serves as the Troop Scribe. The celebration opened up with Jacob Butterfield, Quartermaster, leading those attending in the Pledge of Allegiance and Deavan Scott, Troop Guide,  guiding the group in the BS Oath. Mr. Kurtz, Troop Chaplain, led them in prayer before they shared their favorite pizza.

After the meal, Aaron then called the Scouts up to tell about their past events. Korwin Kurtz, the new Senior Patrol Leader, spoke about their show and sell popcorn booth. Theo Hardesty, Assistant Troop Guide and Historian, retold how the boys were finishing up their Disability Awareness Merit Badge while giving presentations to the Cub Scouts of Pack 124. 

Mrs. Kurtz, Popcorn Kernel, presented the troop with their awards they earned during their popcorn fundraiser. New Scout, Donald Waters, explained the Scouting for Food event which is one of Scouting¹s biggest community service projects. James Lee, Patrol Leader, spoke of the troop¹s fall camperee that was held at the Ada Park where the boys held a dutch oven cook off.

Scoutmaster, Tom Lehman, presented the boys with their Merit Badges. Jacob Butterfield earned his cooking, woodworking, family life, camping, and engineering merit badges. James was given his Summer camp badge, and merit badges for horsemanship, archery, and woodworking.

Korwin received his archery merit badge.
• Aaron accepted his woodworking and pottery merit badges.
• Isaac Spar, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, collected his pottery merit badge. 
• Deavan acquired his disability awareness merit badge.
• Theo obtained his chess merit badge.
• Wyatt Rettig, Assistant Patrol Leader, was given his personal fitness, and family life merit badges.

Eight young men were honored with rank advancement, Jacob Bassett, Chaplain Aide, and Donald earned their Scout Badge. 2nd Class Rank was given to Khyler Stoll, Patrol Leader, and James. Earning the Rank of First Class was Isaac, Deavan, and Wyatt. Jacob was acknowledged for earning the rank of Life Scout.

The Troop held elections this past month, others holding positions that are not listed above are Jared Hunt who was elected Assistant Patrol Leader, Librarian is Theodore Hadley, and the Troop Order of the Arrow Representatives are Aaron Spar and Jacob Butterfield.

The green bar group, which consists of the four top positions held in the troop (SPL, ASPL, Scribe, and QM) along with the Patrol leaders and their assistants held an overnighter to plan the yearly events the troop will attend or participate in in the year of 2015.

Since their ceremony, the troop has been working on the skating merit badge where they spent the day at the Rollerdome in St. Marys learning new skating skill. They are now preparing for their annual Klondike Derby that will be held on Jan. 17 in Findlay at Camp Berry. This event allows boys to compete against other Ohio Troops in showing off their scout skills.

Other upcoming events are ski day at Mad River Mountain, Top popcorn sellers club event, and a trip to the Allen County Museum.
