Football player tops in academics and athletics
Senior Cyler Caldwell (Wadsworth) has been named a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America First Team Academic All-American football team for the 2017 season.
After being named First Team Academic All-District 7 by CoSIDA, Caldwell earned a spot on the ballot for Academic All-America honors, where he became the first Polar Bear since Andy Roecker in 1997 to be named a First Team Academic All-American.
Caldwell also became only the ninth player in school history to earn Academic All-American status and is the first player to earn the honor since former ONU standout Wes Hostetler in 2005.
The defensive back majoring in Mechanical Engineering, started all 10 games at corner back this season and had 14 starts in his career.
He was fifth on the team with 52 tackles and had two interceptions.
Caldwell ended his career with 97 tackles and two interceptions in 40 games.
The Polar Bears finished with a 7-3 record and were second in the OAC with a 6-3 mark in 2017 under 14th-year head coach Dean Paul.
