More national recognition for Richards
For the second time this season, senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women's Div. III National Athlete of the Week.
Richards first earned the honor the week of Dec. 5, 2017 after shattering the school record in the women's 3,000-meter run indoors by 40.62 seconds. She posted the second fastest time in Div. III history in the event.
The senior was named the National Athlete of the Week for the second time this season for her efforts at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet last weekend where she broke the all-time Div. III record in the 800-meter run, breaking the previous record set in 2013 by Wis.-Oshkosh's Christy Cazzola by nearly half a second. The senior also broke her own school record for the second consecutive week after finishing in a record 2:05.28.
Northern will return to the track this Saturday as it travels to Gambier to compete in the Kenyon Classic.
