Wrestling: ONU 27, Muskingum, 13
The Ohio Northern wrestling team celebrated Senior Night with a 27-13 victory over Muskingum on Tuesdayevening at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 9-9 overall and move to 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Muskies fall to 4-9, 0-5.
After Muskingum won the first three bouts and took an early 13-0 lead, freshman Schuyler Caprella (Harrod/Allen East) started a streak of seven consecutive victories with a 7-3 decision at 149 to get the Polar Bears on the board.
Senior Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) followed with a 17-1 tech fall at 157 and senior Seth Meyer (Defiance) won by decision 5-3 at 165.
Junior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) then won by forfeit at 174 to give the Polar Bears a 17-13 lead.
Senior Alex Bair (Centerville) won by major decision 10-1 at 184 and senior Evan Hickey (Wilmington) won by forfeit at 197 to make it 27-13 Polar Bears.
Sophomore Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) wrapped up the dual with a 21-3 tech fall victory at Heavyweight.
Prior to the match, the team honored its seven seniors, Bair, Ian Brown (Xenia/Carroll), Hickey, Meyer, Morgan, Nelson and Taton.
The Polar Bears will compete as a JV squad this weekend at the Mid-States Invitational at North Manchester, Ind., and will wrap up its varsity campaign next Tuesday with an OAC dual at Heidelberg.
