4 steel drum bands to perform Saturday
Ohio Northern University and Dr. Sarah Waters, associate professor of music will hold the third annual Steel Drum Day at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 in the Presser Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
This year will feature steel bands from Columbus, Ada and Lima. The program will feature up-beat rock and roll, calypso, reggae and Afro-Cuban steel band music.
The ensembles will include the Lima Liberty Arts Magnet Steel Drum Band, under the direction of Paul Eckert; the Franklinton Preparatory Academy Steel Band, under the direction of Sam McCoy; the Wild Steelions, under the direction of Waters; and the ONU Steel Drum Band, also under the direction of Waters.
The high-energy program welcomes audiences of all ages. A limbo contest will also be held during the concert.
