Coach calls match results “embarrassing, unacceptable”
ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team fell 8-1 at Mount Union on Saturday afternoon at Whitehill Tennis Courts.
The Polar Bears move to 7-6 overall and are 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Purple Raiders improve to 10-2, 4-0.
Junior Jake Abbott (Kenton) and sophomore Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) won 9-8(4) at No. 2 doubles for Ohio Northern.
In singles play, five of the 13 sets went to a tiebreaker with Mount Union taking four of the five to complete the sweep.
"I was disappointed in our performance," ONU head coach Mike Bonnell said. "It was embarrassing and completely unacceptable if we want to get our program back to where it needs to be."
The Polar Bears will return to action on Monday with a Noon contest at Capital at Scarborough East Racquet Club in Columbus.
