Goodchild wins medalist honors
DEFIANCE — Senior Zach Goodchild (Pickerington/North) fired a second round 74 to win Medalist honors by one stroke and lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team at the Defiance Spring Invitational Saturday-Sunday at Eagle Rock Golf Course.
The Polar Bears (20-47-1 overall) finished tied for eighth out of 12 varsity teams at the 36-hole tournament with a 305-315—615.
Mount Saint Joseph won the team title with a 286-298—584, Transylvania (Ky.) was second with a 295-302—597 and Hanover (Ind.) was third with a 297-308—605.
Goodchild was first out of 101 golfers with his 1-over par 141, which is his career low and is just one stroke off the school record 36-hole score of 140 set by Colin Burns in 2012 and Tyler Davis in 2015.
This marks his second Medalist honor this season, as he won the Bluffton Fall Invitational Sept. 1-2 of 2017.
His first round 67 tied the school record set in 2007 by Andrew Rahrig, who's 67 was a 4-under par score.
