Women’s tennis almost wins OAC crown
CLEVELAND — Senior Lynn Kelly (Mason) won at No. 2 singles to lead the Ohio Northern women's tennis team in an 8-1 loss at John Carroll in a battle for the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title on Sunday afternoon at Cleveland State's Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
The Polar Bears end their regular season 18-6 overall and finish their OAC slate 7-1, while the Blue Streaks improve to 14-6 overall and win the league's regular season title with an 8-0 record.
ONU will be the No. 2 seed in next week's OAC Tournament and receive a bye into the semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason.
Kelly improved to 20-5 on the season in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore Mackenzie Wills (Ada) took her singles match at No. 6 to a third set tiebreaker, but fell 6-2, 2-6, 11-9.
Junior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) and sophomore Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) also took their match to a tiebreaker, falling 9-8(4) at No. 3 doubles.
